T. P. McEvoy, transport manager of John West Foods Ltd., Liverpool, has retired after more than 50 years' service with the Unilever Group.

A new director, William B. Pooley, has been appointed to the board of Pointer Group Holdings Ltd. Mr. Pooley, 43, is a senior partner in the Norwich legal company of Mills and Reeve.

The Blox group of companies, which has announced plans to expand its commercial vehicle contract hire and haulage business, has appointed L. Barnett as sales manager to take charge. For the past 12 years he has been employed in a similar capacity by a Bedford main dealer. C. McMichael has been appointed general manager of Fields of Hitchin Ltd., the Hertfordshire maintenance and repair depot of Blox Services Ltd. Latterly he was manager of a haulage company in Lincolnshire.

Brian Mulligan has been appointed group sales manager of the Primrose group of companies and will be based at Padiham, Lancs. Mr. Mulligan was general manager of the Clitheroe branch—a post now being filled by R. Fletcher, formerly works manager at Blackburn.

R. D. Gillanders, 52, has been appointed London Transport mechanical engineer (new

works road services). He is responsible for the development of new vehicles and allied equipment and, after consultation with the mechanical engineer (rolling stock—road services) for changes of garage layout and equipment. H. W. Cromack, 60, becomes mechanical engineer (rolling stock--road services); he is responsible for engineering work in the bus and coach garages. A. E. Butler, 58, has been appointed assistant mechanical engineer (rolling stock— road services). A. F. Tame, 55, has been made mechanical engineer (works—road services); he is responsible for Chiswick works, Aldenham works, the ticket machine works (road services) and for plant engineering. A. R. Purves, 63, has been redesignated mechanical engineer (development—road services), reporting to the mechanical engineer (new works—road services).

Claude Pole, head of the transport department of British United Shoe Machinery Co. Ltd., Leicester, has retired after 51 years with the company. I. 0. Fisher, manager of Rotherham Corporation's transport department since 1955, has retired. Mr. Fisher moved from Wigan as traffic superintendent.

BRS Parcels Ltd. announces the following appointments: W. 0. Watkins as branch manager, Acton (formerly branch manager, Stratford): A. E. Scroggs as branch manager. Eltham (formerly superintendent, City branch); J. Hosier as commercial superintendent, London area (formerly commercial assistant, London area).

OBITUARY

We regret to record the deaths of Mr. Harold Maxon, M. Frank C. Nicol and Mr. Daniel M. Smith.

Mr. Maxon, 68, had been chief driving instructor of Leicester Transport Department for five years when he retired four years ago after some 36 years' service.

Mr. Nicol, 74, of Broxburn, West Lothian, was one of the pioneers of bus transport there. In the late 1920s and early '30s he provided bus travel between Broxburn, Linlithgow and Grangemouth. In 1933 he sold out to SMT.

Mr. Smith, of Gilholm, Strathaven, was founder and chairman of D. M. Smith (Transport) Ltd., Wishaw, Lanarkshire, which operates throughout the UK.
