made to ram-air supercharging. Have you details of such a system?
AThe speaker was probably referring to
the FiamAire Ejector supercharger developed by the General Motors Corporation of America for applications to petrol engines. It should be possible to apply the supercharger to diesel engines.
Designed for intermittent use, the system basically comprises a high-pressure reservoir that is charged by a belt-driven compressor and is employed in conjunction with a venturitype dual-nozzle ejector to pressure-charge the engine when the throttle is fully open.
It is claimed that the system enables a smaller engine to do the work of a larger engine with consequent savings in fuel consumption and weight. Because the supercharger only operates when maximum torque is required, and for a major part of its service time is inoperative, it should have an advantage over turbocharging.
