CIR REGINALD WILSON has resigned from the position of chairman and 1-7 director of Bristol Commercial Vehicles Ltd., and Sir William Black and Sir Donald Stokes have resigned as directors. G. W. Quick Smith, a director, has been elected chairman, and J. R. Leitch appointed to the board.

This announcement by Bristol on Friday caused speculation that the departure of Sir William and Sir Donald, chairman and deputy chairman and managing director respectively of Leyland Motor Corporation, signified that Leyland was disposing of its 25 per cent interest in Bristol.

But both affirmed this week that they had been obliged to resign simply because of pressure of work and that Mr. Leitch,-of Associated Commercial Vehicles, would continue to look after Leyland's interest.

The resignation of Sir Reginald, THC deputy chairman, was expected and in line with policy for the company's future.

David D. N. Graham, assistant traffic manager of Ribble Motor Services Ltd. for the past two years, has been promoted to deputy traffic manager. Arthur E. Caine, Ribble's traffic superintendent since 1956, has been promoted to assistant traffic manager (administration). Alan Maltby, traffic superintendent of Ribble's southern area since 1952, has been appointed to the new post of training officer, responsible for the co-ordination and administration of all aspects of personnel training throughout the -Ribble Group.

London's new traffic chief is Robert Vigars, a 43-year-old solicitor, who was named this week as Tory chairman of the Greater London Council's highways and traffic committee.

John Hearn has been appointed technical manager, lubrication, of Enots Ltd.

OBITUARY

WE regret to record the deaths of Francis Herbert Bale, Andrew Russell Carlisle and J. R. Nodder.

Mr. Bale, 81, was a leading figure in motor insurance, road safety and motor sport. He was managing director and then president of Premier Motor Policies Ltd. Co.-founder of the Order of the Road in 1928, he was honorary secretary and treasurer for many years. He was a life member of the council of the BARC and one of the RAC's representatives on the standing joint committee of the RAC, AA and RSAC.

For many years a haulage contractor, Mr. Carlisle, of Cityfield Farm, Henlow, Bedford, has died at the age of 67.

Mr Nodder was development engineer in the Sheffield Transport Undertaking. He was 62 and had worked for the Undertaking for 46 years.
