R. Hanson and Son found its expansion restricted in 1966, reports Mr. Geoffrey Eley, chairman of its parent company, Thomas Tilling Ltd. Work was more difficult to obtain and costs continued to riseāthe outcome being lower profits.
The house coal side and tanker fleet did well, but the special bulk delivery vehicles disappointed and have been reduced in number. A new repair depot opened in August "provided the company with one of the finest commercial vehicle engineering depots in the North."
Mr. Eley adds that in March 1967 Hanson purchased Sam Longson, a company with a large fleet of vehicles based at Chapel-en-le-Frith, Derbyshire. "There is plenty of scope for further expansion."
Batt Line: Tyne-Tees Steam Shipping Co. Ltd., of Newcastle. and Wm. H. Muller and Co. (Batavier) NV, of Rotterdam, are to establish a joint unit-load service between Rotterdam and Middlesbrough in mid-May with two sailings a week in each direction, operating under the name Batt Line.
