A statement that road transport is absolutely essential to the prosperity of Falkirk was made at a sitting, in Edinburgh, of the Southern Scotland Licensing Authority. The speaker was Mr. W. Mitchell, managing director of an iron company, who was giving evidence in support of an application by the White Line Transport Co. for the renewal of a licence.
Mr. Mitchell, who gave evidence on behalf of No. 1 District of the National Light Castings Iron Founders' Federation, said that the risk of the loss of road transport would constitute a definite menace to the light-castings industry in Scotland.
Three Rivals Shake Hands in Court. Three rivals around the small burgh of Rosehearty attended a sitting of the Northern Scotland Licensing Authority, at Aberdeen. One was applying for a slight extension of a licence. The other two objected to his application and alleged that he had committed a breach of his licence.
Mr. Henry Riches, presiding, granted the application. He then pointed out that it would be far better for the three men, living in such a small place, to be friends than to be enemies. He suggested that they should sink their differences and shake hands. The suggestion was promptly acted upon.
