In November, 1896, 40 years ago, the first motorcar run to Brighton heralded the dawn of motoring and the motor industry in this country.

The first Emancipation Run to Brighton on November 14, 1896, is described and illustrated. On Monday evening, November 23, he will address Southampton Chamber of Commerce on the subject of "Trams, Trolleybuses and Motorbuses." On the following Saturday (November 28), at 7.30 p.m., he will lecture to the Lincolnshire Transport Association, at the Duke of Wellington Hotel, Lincoln.

Durham Moves to Stop Overloading.

Durham County Council has tightened up its campaign against the overloading of maximum-load vehicles, by the provision of new weighbridges. An admission that the use of portable weighers may not afford complete accuracy is contained in the county weights and measures inspector's report. He states that " greater accuracy is obtained when the vehicle is weighed at the ground level. . . ."
