On Wednesday, Liverpool and Birkenhead Members of Parliament met a deputation from the Mersey Tunnel Joint Committee at the House of Corn1110115. The conference was arranged in view of the following day's debate in Parliament on the second reading of the Trunk Roads Bill.
The committee is pressing the Government to take over the, tunnel as a national road, or, failing that, to make an additional grant towards the cost. of the tunnel, in fulfilment of a promise made that the matter of extra financial assistance would be considered if, owing to unforeseen engineering diffienities, the cost exceeded the estimates, as has proved to be the case.
