Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

THE LIVERPOOL-Belfast ro-ro ferry service restarts on March 31, when a daily service is started with one sailing in each direction.

Irish Continental Lines has formed Belfast Car Ferries, and will have space for 30 lorries on its 5,285 ton ferry St Columb. P&O, which withdrew its service last November, had very limited accommodation on its ships for lorries.

The P&O Service was withdrawn, after the Government refused to bear its losses of over Elm a year, and the new service is being run without any Government support.

Commenting on the new service, Northern Ireland Transport Minister David Mitchell said last week: "I wish them well and feel sure the new company will receive the fullest support from both the travelling public and business interests in Northern Ireland."

As we closed for press on Tuesday, no ferries were operating between Holyhead and Dublin or Dun Laoghaire. Sealink suspended its service after B&I crews blockaded Dun Laoghaire in protest at unions' refusal to handle B&I's new service at Holyhead.
