Ltd., and Robin Hood (Coaches), Ltd., were successful at a Glasgow sitting of the Scottish Traffic Commissioners last week in an application for backing to grants made in the East Midlands area, giving support for additional journeys from Corby to Glasgow and from Glasgow to Corby, and the introduction of single and return fares from Glasgow to Corby,

Western S.M.T. Co., Ltd., and British Railways objected, basing their case on the contention that they were existing operators from Glasgow to Corby and would suffer abstraction of traffic were any Glasgow to Corby service permitted to the joint applicants.

Skimming the Cream Mr. R. Farrell, for the objectors, said that the necessity was to prove that the grant requested was in the public interest: that it was not in the public interest to abstract traffic out of Glasgow when the needs of the area were already adequately serviced by Western. Friday was the cream traffic period and the applicants proposed to skim that cream. They were English operators coming into a Scottish area representing new competition which would be wasteful.

Mr. A. C. G. Rothera, for the applicants, claimed that Robin Hood and Barton were as entitled to operate in Scotland as Western were to London.

Mr. W. F. Quin, chairman, said that he and his colleagues were satisfied that the case had been proved and proposed to grant the application, but they proposed to limit duplication to one service vehicle plus two duplicates.

TIMBER IMPORTS AT WHITBY IT was much quicker and more I economical to import timber in smaller ships into Whitby, where there was no waiting for berths, than through Hull.

The Yorkshire Licensing Authority. Major F. S. Eastwood, was told this at Bridlington last week, by Mr. A. Palfreyman, of Corner and Brown, Ltd., timber importers. who supported an application by L. F. Robinson, Ltd.. Whitby, to substitute two A licensed vehicles for the carriage of timber.

He added that two cargoes were imported in 1958, eight in both 1959 and 1960, and 12 were expected in 1961, each of about 150 standards.

In addition to the substitution. Robinson's were granted art additional tipper.
