rLAIMED to be the lowest-priced equipment of its type in the world, the Kwiklift low-capacity lorrymounted crane has recently been put into production by Cohen Brothers (Electrical), Ltd., 11 King Edward Buildings, Bury Old Road, Manchester, 8. The crane is capable of lifts of up to 2+ tons, and was originally designed by Cohen's to meet their own special requirements in connection with the erection of street-lighting columns.

Basically, the Kwiklift consists of a hydraulicallyoperated crane unit which can be mounted on either a Morris-Commercial C.8 or Bedford QL chassis, both of these being ex-W.D. 4 x 4 models. In each case the crane can travel at a normal road speed of 30 m.p.h.

The jib is fabricated from angle iron, and is carried on bushed pins. It has three permanent fixed swivel hooks, one of which will lift 1 ton to a height of 21 ft. 7 in. The intermediate hook can be used to lift A single hydraulic ram, controlled by the operator from inside the lorry cab, actuates the jib. The hydraulic circuit incorporates a relief valve, and a flowcontrol valve automatically governs the lowering speed irrespective of the load. The hydraulic pump is mounted directly on the gearbox.

The crane unit is mounted on 6 in. x 3 in. rolled-steel channels, which form a sub-frame and contain concrete ballast at the rear. A heavy-duty towing hook is supplied as standard equipment at the rear of the chassis frame, and the front of the vehicle is protected from swinging loads by a robust guard.
