MR. R. CORN has been appointed assistant accountant of the Northern General Transport' Co., Ltd., in succession to Mr. H. Armstrong.

MR. JOHN OLDHAM, chairman of Oldham and Son, Ltd., left Manchester last week on an eight-week visit to the Oldham Group's companies in Africa. During his visit to South Africa, Mr. Oldham will be joined by his son, MR. ORLANDO OLDHAM, now assistant managing director of the company.

MR: R. A. BECKETT, managing director of Beckett, Laycock and Watkinson, Ltd., will be leaving London on January 27 to visit Bombay, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney and Brisbane. From Australia he will travel to Mexico and Montreal, and from Canada he will return to London at the end of March. In two world-wide tours during 1960, Mr. Beckett visited overseas companies of the Beclawat organisation and agencies in the Far East. MR. ALICK S. DICK, chairman and managing director of Standard-Triumph International, has been awarded the Royal Society of Arts' Benjamin Franklin Medal for 1961 "for his contribution to industrial progress in the motor car industry."

MR. K. D. Vick, London director of Cranes (Dereham), Ltd., left London on Monday to visit the oilfields in Libya. The main object of his visit is to investigate field conditions and the oilfield equipment at present in use and, if possible, advise on the typo of equipment most suited to the gruelling conditions in the Libyan Desert.

MR. M. A. HOLMES, chairman of the Tilling Board of Management, has been appointed chairman of the Road Operators' Safety Council for 1961. The following h-ave been appointed vicechairmen: MR. R. W. BICKERTON, chief chemist at the Hyde plant; MR. J. BIRCHENOUGH, works manager at the Hyde plant; MR. R, A. MILLER, divisional sales manager in the North London division; and MR. S. V. TILLEY, senior technical representative in the Midlands and South Wales, have been appointed to the board of Fletcher Miller, Ltd., makers of industrial degreasants, of Hyde, Cheshire. In addition, the board have approved the appointment of MR. D. W. HOWE as their Northern area manager, Engineering Division.
