Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

of. Our guide isn't here to scare you — more to focus you on the most useful things you can do at your age for your body.

20s: Sexual health or suicide Violence, self harm or accidents are the biggest risks for young men, but there is a strong case for looking ahead. If you smoke or drink too much, quit now. Not only will you have had less time to harm yourself but your body is more efficient at healing itself than it will be later. If you're still free and single-or just rampant remember the rules of safe sex. Getting an STD now can screw you up for a long time. Remember, you may not feel it but you are breakable.

30s: Suicide or alcohol Mental health is often overlooked by men, by their friends, co-workers and employers. Life is tough and everyone needs someone to talk to. Admitting you are going through a rough time where you don't have all the answers isn't an admission of weakness it's a sign of great strength and responsibility.

Sometimes it's more than emotional flux. The brain chemicals that keep us on an even keel go out of whack for many of us at some point in our lives, but for most people it's easily treated. Talking to your doctor is the first step in feeling better.

Cut down on the boozedon't binge, as you'll hit your liver hard and remember that too much piles on the pounds. Most men who end up overweight start putting it on in their 30s, particularly if they now do less sport than they did when they were young.

405: Cancer, overweight, work stress or alcohol You're in the prime of life, and you're still muscular, strong and fit. This is a point at which you should keep exercising use it or lose it. In the same way, if you haven't stopped smoking and drinking hard do it now. Changing habits becomes more difficult as you get older. Make sure you have someone you trust to confide in and don't bury uncomfortable feelings. Make sure you have a good work/life balance: take time out every day to relax.

50s: Heart disease, prostate disease or cancer You've probably stopped taking so many risks and you're not a wild child any more. The good news is you've passed the like y age for such things as testicular cancer, although some of the others become more of a threat. See the health checks box. Your metabolism changes, making you put on weight more easily and increasing your risk of diabetes.

On the other hand, if you keep your diet under control and exercise, your muscles will stay as firm and strong as ever. It is worth looking after yourself now -you want to last at least another 25 years. Open the winehaving one or two drinks a day (but no more) can help your heart.

605: Heart disease, prostate disease or cancer Don't stop eating well and exercising. You should have regular checkups and measure your Body Mass Index every month. As you age, your body burns more carbohydrate and less fat when you exercise, making it harder to stay in shape. Take a vitamin and mineral supplement to boost your diet and be vigilant about your health but not paranoid. Remember that we have health checks to keep us in control. so we can get the best and earliest treatment and hopefully get on with our lives. Not knowing doesn't make you healthyit just makes you powerless. A positive outlook will boost your health.

70s: Isolation Many people end up lonelier at the end of their lives than before, particularly if they have lost people they cared about. Try to keep a wide social network. And remember that mental decline is not a normal part of the ageing process. Stay as physically and mentally active as possible.

Your problem-solving has never been better because it is boosted by decades of experience. Keep exercising because you can still have a good musculature and lung capacity-but only if you keep using them. Stop and they can decrease rapidly.
