THE GOVERNMENT proposes to raise tolls for lorries using the Forth Road Bridge.
It plans to raise the present 80p standard rate by 20p to £1 and to raise the regular users' concessionary rate from 50p to 65p.
The light van toll would rise from 50p to 70p, but a regular users' concessionary rate of 36p is being proposed for the first time.
The increase is proposed to help the Bridge Board pay off the outstanding debt of £21.5m by 1994. A public inquiry may have to be held into the proposed increases.
