PLANNING permission is being sought for the first motorway service station on the M25, ,Transport Minister Lynda Chalker has announced.
The 40-acre site on which the development is proposed is just above the Dartford Tunnel.
The proposed service area will provide services for northbound or southbound traffic on the eastern side of the orbital motorway if Thurrock Borough Council gives its permission.
Three other service areas are proposed for the M25 at South Mimms, Iver and Clacket Lane, near Westerham. Planning permission will be sought in the future, the Department of Transport has said.
Back-up facilities are also planned on the feeder motorways where facilities do not already exist — for the M11 at Birchanger (M11/A120), the M4 near Reading, on the M20 near Maidstone and the M40 near High Wycombe.
