TWO of the more diverse groups within the National Freight Consortium have been merged into one, but the companies within them retain their identities.
The National Services Group, which encompassed most of the surviving non-parcels activities of the old National Carriers business, and the Special Traffics Group have been merged to form the Special Services Group.
It is being headed by group managing director Clive Beattie, who already was in charge of both of the former groups. The finance director is Hugh Mellor.
The new group takes in Cartransport, Containerway and Roadferry, Cotrali-Pickfords, Fashionflow, Freight Computer Services, National Carriers Contract Services, Sonitrol-Pickfords, Tankfreight, and Waste Management.
• BRS Southern, part of another NFC group, has won a two-vehicle contract with Foster Refrigerator, a company based at King's Lynn, Norfolk.
• A Somerset company, Clares Carlton of Wells, has won an order to supply BRS with 6,000 two-piece navy blue uniforms for use by its staff.
National Carriers Contract Services operates the British Pepper and Spice Company's fleet.
