TWO PERSONALITIES closely connected with the Lorry Driver of the Year finals have died.
Gerry Aston, who was reelected LDoY president only a month ago, died suddenly on April 8, aged 62. He had been president for four years and before that was clerk of the course for many years.
He also had run his own transport business, Guymers' Transport of Walsall, and won the Military Cross during the Second World War.
The death has also occured of Denis Miller, who was 38 and for a short time in the early Seventies worked for CM organising the Lorry Driver of the Year finals.
Mr Miller's primary interest was commercial vehicles and he wrote many reference books for commercial vehicle enthusiasts. He organised the Classic Commercial Motor Show held at the LDoY finals and was a committee member of the Commercial Vehicle and Road Transport Club for more than 20 years.
