Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• A light version of the Ceschi-Primrose self-tracking axle is now being used for third-axle conversions of medium-weight goods chassis. The first chassis to be converted with this unit—for Tate and Lyle— left the production line of the Primrose Third Axle Co. last week. It is a Bedford KE 6-tonner, re-rated in its six-wheeled form—with the added axle located ahead of the driving axle—at 13.5 tons gross. The self-tracking axle has single tyres; with twins the gross weight rating would be at least 15 tons.

Chassis/cab weight of the converted Bedford is only 3.57 tons, giving nearly 10 tons allowance for body and payload. Its 17th. wheels afford a low body height. Bedford hubs and drums provide for interchangeability.

As with the heavier 6-ton and 10-ton self-tracking third axle conversions already in production, the axle is air-sprung, with axle location by leaf springs and a transverse Panhard rod; pressure in the air springs is adjusted automatically according to the weight imposed on the driving axle,
