Alec Issigonis has been relieved of his executive responsibilities at his own request. BMC announced on Tuesday. He will remain BMC's technical director, advising the Corporation on long-term vehicle research projects, but his executive responsibilities will betaken over by Charles A. Griffin, formerly chief engineer, in the new appointment of director of engineering. BMC. Assisting him in another new post —deputy director of engineering—will be Stanley H. Dews who joined BMC from Ford last November as director of commercial vehicle design; he will be primarily responsible for administration and day-to-day operation. But he will retain his responsibility for commercial vehicles. In his new role, Mr. Griffin will be responsible for the design and development of engines and other mechanical units, such as transmissions and suspensions. Body styling, structure, trim and finish will remain the province of Harry R. Barber, assistant managing director, Pressed Steel Fisher.
