Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

AYes. The Road Research Laboratory,

Crowthorne, recently published (report LR79) Cost of Road Accidents in Great Britain, by R. F. F. Dawson. This estimates the measurable cost of road accidents to the community. The calculations are based on 1963 but estimates of costs are made for 1964 and 1965.

The total measurable costs of accidents in 1965 were estimated to be £264m made up as follows: medical treatment £12m, damage to property £164m, administrative £28m, loss of future output E42m. The total cost of all accidents divided by the number of personal injury accidents was £820 but when tentative values were placed on the cost of suffering and bereavement this average became £1,020.
