THREE lorries and 30 cars, all current models, will take part in a rally for disabled drivers from Edinburgh to Glasgow on November 8. It is being organised by the Scottish Motor Trade Association and is expected to raise at least £5,000 for the International Year of Disabled People from exhibitors at the Scottish Motor Show.
Entertainment celebrities are being invited to accompany the drivers and the main sponsor of each vehicle will contribute £100 for each notability. Other exhibitors named on vehicles will pay £50 or more.
Drivers will be marked on their general driving skill, manoeuvring ability and knowledge of the Highway Code, and the best of them will receive prizes to be presented at Kelvin Hall when the show opens on November 13. Rally stewards and marshals will be supplied by the Royal Scottish Automobile Club and the police are co-operating.
