AN underfloor-engined 3-4-tonner . named the Gamecock and a .14-seat passenger vehicle have been added to the Karrier range and both will be exhibited at Earls Court. The Gamecock • 'has a six-eylinclered overhead-valve engine which is common to the Commer range, but develops 85 b.h.p. This model replaces the CK3 in all industrial and municipal .applications.

. The .Gamecock is similar in layout to the Conuner 5-ton and 7-ton forward-control chassis, having the power unit inclined at 66 degrees to the vertical below the cab, thus enabling the body to be brought well forward for correct weight distribution.

A, high-ratio (5.42 to 1) spiral-bevel axle is standardized, in conjunction with 27 by 6-in. tyres of eight-ply rating, for the industrial and municipal models, apart from the moving-floor refuse collector and gully and cesspool-emptiers. The small-, diameter tyres help to reduce the loading line. Three other tyre sizes are available, according to the type of duty. Thp Gamecock is available with 9-ft. 7-in. and 11-ft. 9-in. wheelbases, a sturdy frame 8 ins, deep being employed. High-efficiency braking is assured by using a Clayton Dewandre 54-in. servo actuating Girling twoleading-shoe units hydraulically. The front brake drums are 14 ins, in diameter, with 2+-in.wide shoes. At the rear the relative dimensions are 124 'and 3+ ins.

The full-width cab seats three on a bench-type seat, and with the lowmounted radiator there is no obstruction to the floor. Other cab details in the Gamecock, which are also to be incorporated generally in the Commer Karrier range, include swivelling quarter lights in the doors and glazed rear corner. paneli In the municipal version an all-steel seven-seater cab can be provided and refuse-collection bodies ranging from 10-18-cubic-yd. capacity can be fitted.

Forward control is a feature of the new Karrier 14-seat coach, which is planned. for local transport, feeder services or similar duties. It has a vertical 50 b.h.p. four-cylindered petrol engine having chromium-treated bores. Suspension has been improved by integrating the springing with doubleacting shock absorbers and lowpressure tyres. One of these chassis with a Reading body will be on the Karrier stand.

The Reading body has a flush-fitting sliding door immediately behind the front.axle and a sliding roof. The ventilation system includes inclined louvres at the top of the side windows. The frontal styling and visibility are improved by employing glazed corner panels.

Another body on the .Karrier 10-ft. wheelbase chassis is a 14-seater built by Churchill Constructors, Ltd..„ Norwich, which will be shown on the bodybuilders' stand. This is. a composite structure with four single and double Seats arranged along the sides and a seat for four passengers at the rear.
