A nine-page press release accompanies an announcement that the 1993 Pirelli calendar is about to be launched on a suspecting public. It is celebrating 30 years of telling grease monkeys in backstreet garages what clay it is by producing a year of women in white bathing suits; surely a less than ideal colour for vehicle maintenance.
But wait — although "by tradition calendars were hung on garage walls, now they hang in museums", according to Pirelli. Museums must have changed since the Hawk was a lad, packed off to the Horniman on a school outing with a bag of fish-paste sarnies.
