Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• In an apparent attempt to distance itself from the failed haulier Barnfather Ltd, Felixstowe-based Barnfather Freight has changed its name to Network Freight.

The clearing house operation, which has offices at Felixstowe and Tilbury, shares director David Parkinson with Durhambased Barnfather Ltd. Barnfather Ltd crashed last month owing furious owner-drivers hundreds of thousands of pounds and National Westminster bank around £1.5m.

It is believed that from the summer Barnfather Freight also organised back-loads from the south for Barnfather Ltd vehicles. Network Freight managing director Pat Conn refuses to comment on any relationship between the companies.

Parkinson, along with fellow ex-Barnfather Ltd director Ian Matthews, is working for AAH Distribution Services which bought most of the assets and goodwill of the company days before it went into receivership for book debts.

A creditors meeting is to be held today (19 November) at Leeds although the liquidator Ernst and Young offers little hope of cash for the 400 creditors after National Westminster has taken its money.

As is usual practice for company liquidations, after the creditors meeting the liquidator will investigate the running of Barnfather Ltd.
