SUPPLIERS and customers of many hundreds
of shops will be seriously inconvenienced if they are denied the facility of receiving and dispatching goods between 8 a.m. and 9.30 a.m. and 4.30 p.m. and 6.30 p.m., the Traders Road Transport Association has told Sheffield Corporadon. Because of this the Association is objecting formally to the City of Sheffield (Urban Clearways) Order, 1966 and the City of Sheffield (Prohibition and Restrictions of Waiting) (Various Roads) Order, 1965.
Because of the widespread nature of the proposed restrictions the amount that can be achieved by rearrangement of collection and delivery schedules is limited, although the TRTA has urged its members already to avoid loading and unloading during peak hours as much as possible.
The Association has carried out a detailed survey of the streets concerned and suggested that car parking should be restricted in a number of side streets. If this were done, goods vehicles could use these side streets to service premises in streets covered by the peak hour ban.
