Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• Martintrux, the Grays, Essex-based haulage firm, has won 23,000 damages from another haulage company following a motorway pile-up in which one of its trucks was written off.

The High Court heard last week how Martintrux driver Frederick Dallas was leaving the M1 when his truck was hit from behind by another HGV whose driver had not looked where he was going. Dallas claimed that the impact of the collision with the Ilkeston Glass Supplies vehicle caused his trailer to smash into another truck driving alongside, writing off the Martintrux Scania.

Martintrux sued Ilkeston Glass Supplies of Ilkeston, Derbyshire and driver Keith Asher of Leabrooks, Derby for negligence.

The court accepted that Asher had been driving too fast and Judge Sir Douglas Frank QC approved a settlement of 23,000 plus costs to Martintrux. Asher and Ilkeston Glass admitted liability.
