• Workers at Renault Truck Industries in Dunstable are poised to strike from next Thursday (25 February) — and that could halt production of 50 Series, Commando and G Range vehicles, which are made at a rate of 29 a day.
Unions representing the 1,320 employees have given the company two weeks' notice of the action, which follows Renault Truck Industries' first operating profit since buying the former Dodge Trucks corn pany from Peugeot in 1981.
Renault denies that the strike could jeapordise truck production at its other plants in Europe, despite its decision to move truck driveshaft manufacture to Dunstable.
RTI has lost 230 million during its five years of Renault ownership. Union members have recently rejected a 12month pay and conditions deal, which included cutting two hours off the working week and a 6% pay rise.
