• Britain's bodybuilders can expect the demountable body market to grow, according to this week's Financial Times Motor Conference. This is because more autoparts distributors are choosing demountables which can remain in the workplace, leaving tractive units free to operate elsewhere.

According to Gordon Spice, chairman of the national parts distributor Spice, the automotive after-market is on the increase for retailers such as Kwilrfit and SMC, as well as add-on specialists like Halfords. "Manufacturers cannot economically supply these outlets directly unless they have sophisticated distribution infrastructure of their own" says Spice.
