• Rodney Hawkins, National Bus Company's director of engineering and technical services, has died at the age of 46, following a long illness.

Hawkins joined the PSV industry in 1964 as a technical assistant, having trained in mechanical engineering with the National Coal Board. In 1966 he moved to Yorkshire Traction as assistant engineer. Three years later he became deputy chief engineer of Bristol Omnibus, taking up the same job with Midland Red in 1972. Eastern National made him chief engineer two years later.

Hawkins' career included several senior positions with Alder Valley, and Amalgamated Passenger Transport before moving to National Bus Company's head office in 1984.
