The first Seddon 4-11 artic to go into service with BOC this year has the latest Grau Girling wheelcontrolled DGX system on both axles to complement the MGX system which has been used for some time on the company's semi-trailers. The 4-11 tractive unit and semitrailer, which is used to distribute hydrogen gas, has an unladen weight of 37.5 tonnes, due to the high pressure cylinders built into the trailer. A Jacobs "Jake' engine brake has also been fitted to the 231kW (308hp) Cummins Super E320 14-litre engine. been fitted with a 119kW 160hp Leyland Daf 311 Series engine, a 256-36 six-speed gearbox, a 5.57:1 rear axle, Southworth self-levelling driveaxle air suspension, a heavyduty air compressor and a redesigned brake system to match the air suspension kit, Peak torque is 532Nm (3921bft) at 1,600rpm. The unit has a 21-tonne GCW and an unladen weight of 3,950kg; it runs on 255/70R 22.5 tyres.
