• While the United Transport Company showed a pre-tax profit for the half year of £2,779.000 and is expected to pay an interim dividend of 7 per cent, another large transport group reports that it will not be paying any dividend.
Amalgamated Transport Services, which embraces over 20 transport companies, is showing a loss of £16.485 for the past financial year. ATS, which paid a 10 per cent dividend last year, attributes its bad trading position to the fact that it took over Allisons Freightlines during the year and this member company had a trading loss of £79,971.
