AROAD passenger vehicle, which probably represents the biggest ever built on the Continent, is that recently produced by Karl Kaessbohrer, Ulm, Danube. This somewhat striking outfit, which is shown in the accompanying illustration, possesses several distinctive features,
It is comprised of a Daimler-Benz tractive unit, equipped with an oil engine developing 1:50 b.h.p., and a semi-trailer providing accommodation for 114 passengers. Under full-load conditions, the total weight is 23 tons. The design of the body is such that all seats provide an equal degree of comfort. In addition to the provision of a no-draught ventilation system, two automatically operated sliding roofs are provided for use during hot weather. Tyres of generous dimensions on the twin wheels of the tractive unit, in conjunction with hydraulic shock absorbers, ensure comfortable riding under the worst conditions.
A feature of unusual interest lies in the fact that the first axle of the trailer can he lifted clear of the ground so as to facilitate turning in confined spaces.
Despite a length of 65 ft., the turning radius of this machine is stated to be no greater than that of a conventional vehicle 45 ft. long.
