vehicle parade organized by the C.M.U.A. Manchester Area took a step right into the ranks of successful events. This year, with more time at their disposal, the organizers have secured a greatly increased entry, and it has been necessary to extend the parade over two days, because even the spacious Belle Vue Speedway car park seemed unlikely to accommodate all at one time.
Judging of coaches is to take place on Friday evening, September 24, at 6 p.m., and coach entrants are asked to have their vehicles in place by 5.45 p.m. Goods vehicles will .assemble by 9.45 a.m. on Saturday. September 25. and judging commences at 10 a.m. Those attending on the Saturday will leave the ground at 3 p.m. and will parade through the city, proceeding by way of Hyde Road, Ardwick Green, Downing Street, London Road, Piccadilly, Market Street, Deansgate. Knott Mill, and will then disperse.
Eleven classes in the competition cover the complete range of commercial vehicles and include a section for nonmembers of the Association. In each class there is a first prize for drivers, and in nine categories there are second and third prizes.
A number of challenge cups is up for award to owners. Entries are due to close to-morrow (Saturday, September 18), but may be accepted up to first post on Monday next. They should be ' addressed to Mr. H. H. Lapsley, Commercial Motor Users Association, 28, Queen Street, Manchester.
After the judging a luncheon will be held in the restaurant adjoining the parade ground; many prominent members of the industry have promised to attend, and Mr. E. F. Topham, area chairman, will preside.
Mr. W. Chamberlain, North-Western Licensing Authority, will present ,the awards at 2.15 p.m.
A 36-page souvenir programme has been prepared, and, among other contents, includes a list of alphabetical hints on legal and licensing requirements.
