Michelin regroove GLC

is successful

A MICHELIN technician last week successfully regrooved the XZT tyres that, according to three tyre service companies, bad an inadequate depth of base rubber for regrooving. (CM, November 9).

The 12-22.5 XZT were regrooved to the recommended depth of 3rnm without revealing the metal protective breaker strip. A Michelin spokesman commented that the number of CUES on the tyres — fitted to the drive wheels of a Scania R112 run by Sussex haulier Transand — indicated that the haulier's articulated bulk tipping work is punishing.

Because the work involves manoeuvring in flint and gravel-covered yards at each end of the trunking runs, Michelin recommends that the XZY would be more suitable on the drive axle than the onroad-only XZT.

The XZY has a harder compound and different tread pattern.
