THE VEHICLE condition monitoring and fault diagnosis conference held this month by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers has, I am sure, filled a long-felt want I would like to think that it was attended by the mechanic who recently serviced my car. He recommended that I should bring it back to have the rear brakes adjusted. The brakes are self-adjusting. What is more, the garage is an official dealer in that make of car and the reception office proudly displays diplomas of mechanics who have attended the manufacturer's service course.
