MAN-VW Truck and Bus Ltd is, one must admit, a bit of a mouthful. An exuberant Leslie Jones, managing director of the new independent importer of MAN and Volkswagen commercial vehicles, speaking at a press lunch to celebrate the company's first day of operations, readily agreed. But it was, he thought, justified by being descriptive of the range of products.
He should be thankful that it is not a German company. If it were its title would, I am told, have been translated as Maschinenfabrik-Augsburg-Nurnberg (MAN) Volkswagen (VW) Lastwagen und Bus Aktien Gesellschaft.
Now laugh that off.
