With reference to the article in your issue dated February 23 concerning the cancellation of the Agristock Conference, I feel duty-bound as chairman of the Livestock Functional Group of the Road Haulage Association and joint chairman of the Agristock Conference, to point out that Barry Hempsall was speaking solely on behalf of the Agricultural Group and views expressed were his and his group's only.
The Livestock Group was not consulted prior to the cancellation and have not yet reached any decision as to any future event. We are, however, looking into the possibility of holding an informal weekend for livestock operators this summer and would welcome the support of as many livestock hauliers as possible.
My group members do not find it easy to attend conferences in October, one of their busiest months, and have always thoroughly enjoyed the Agristock event situated in the centre of the country giving easy access for members from all areas.
