MERSEYSIDE County Council has been accused of dragging its feet over plans by Willowbrook to build bus and coach bodies at the former Triumph TR7 factory at Speke.

Liverpool City Council Labour group leader John Hamilton said: "Here is an opportunity to reinstate 2,000 workers at the British Leyland plant and to bring back rateable income to the city."

Willowbrook is understood to be looking for a new production site near a major port, and has also considered Southampton.

Merseyside deputy chairman Neville Goldrein said the county council welcomes all approaches from firms wanting to invest in the area, and nobody would be rejected.
