he fifth-wheel coupling will be a TJ3C Davies Magret with single-operation jawrelease already incorporated in the Shuntlift design to operate remotely by a compressed air system.
A rear-hinged subframe has side guides, to absorb the strain when coupling at an angle. Two hydraulic rams raise the subframe. A safety air switch cuts off the air supply to the coupling jaws, ensuring that they will not release while the coupling is in the raised position.
Large windows for good vision will be a feature of the vehicle. A deep channel bumper, at the front, and rubber side fenders will give protection against minor bumps.
There will be a choice of either Allison or Clark automatic transmission, leaving hands free for steering.
Danfoss full hydraulic steering will be standard, with dual controls as an option. Other options will include a side access door and a 180° swivel seat.
The Shuntmaster is expected to be produced at the rate of three per month, and the first will be supplied to Courage breweries in three weeks time. The price is expected to be in the range of £12,000 if supplied on the customer's own chassis.
