"Cycling."

Abnormal manufacturing activity in certain trades, and the layingdown of new factories as part of the developments, has led to a revival in cyCling. Royal Agricultural Society.

Space has been allotted for 239 stands in the Implement Section of the Manchester showyard, for this year's "Royal." An interesting corollary to war-time events, in the matter of dilution qf labour, is found in the allotment of four acres of ground _in the showyard, for the purpose of holding a demonstration of women workers; three acres of this will be under plough.

A general meeting of the R.A. S.E. will take place-in the showyard, on Wednesday, 28th inst., at 12 noon. The local guarantee fund now amounts to 25860, whilst the Manchester Corporation is laying on water and-gas, free of charge, at an approximate cost of 21500. .

• h.1 has been . arranged, between the War Office and the Board of Agriculture, that farmers shall be left the following labour : —one able-bodied man to every team of horses, • the team to be the number of horses required to plough any particular holding---a two-horse or three-horse team ; one able-bodied man to every 20"cows in milk, with the assistance of a boy or woman ; one able-bodied man . to every 50 stall-fed cattle, with similar assistance; one able-bodied man to every 200 sheep on enclosed land, exclusive of lambs ; one able-bodied man to every 800 sheep on hills. The ILA. SE. has undoubtedly. contributed very largely to this .offitial result, but the labour stringency forebodes general recourse to mechanical aids by thousands of farmers.

Motorbus Routes.

Our announcement, of a few weeks ago, that there were 4000 miles of provincial motorbus routes, caused no small amount of astonishment, to our knowledge, in the ranks of the County Councils Association. The thoroughness of the hold which the motorbus has already secured upon the provincial travelling public had been but inadequately realized by those who apparently do not believe in the justice of the claim that the roads of this country are for the people who live in it.

Testimony to the development of motorbus routes in and around Birmingham is available, for anybody who wishes to gain a first-hand impression of the facts concerning that centre, in the shape of a monthly guide, published by Mr.. 0. C. Power,of :547, Bearwood Road, Smethwick, price id. post free. Particulars of some 50 services are therein given, with running times.
