Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

NAAKERS of garage equipment have met the needs of 1VIgarage workers in .admirable manner They have, made close. stadies of requirements and designed 'accordingly. . Nevertheless, it often happens that repair staffs have built certain toqls themselves as a result of specific needs and there are cases where such appliances are specially-notable for iheir ingenuity and the efficiency with which they per_ form' the express operations that are their function. An _example is afforded by an engine•erane devised by • Mr. James Baxter, of .Baxters Bus Services Ltd., Airdrie. 4 incorpcirates several features which we believe . to be

unique, and it has been patented'. • .

Forming the base is a triangular trolley the end of whicn .can be run under a chassis. Two channels constitute7the pedestal, and to the top of these the jib is hinged. 'About half way up is a bracket carrying a . lever in the *same vertical plane as the jib. From the accompanying picture it will be seen that the long end of this lever is about -the . 'same length is'the short end of the jib. Connecting these twci ends. is a turn-buckle link operated by a tommy bar. _ Supporting the short end, of the lever, which works betWeen. the_ two upright channel members, is an hydraulic • ' jaiock, sthOunted'on a chair which is adjustable for height by means of pins passing through the channels. An arm, seen in the illustration, in the right. band of the man on the left, operates the jack.•

_Quick lifting or lowering of the hool.c-end' of the jib is

effected by the, hydraulic device, whilst gradual movement is afforded by the turn buckle. Mr. Baxter tells us that • this is particularly useful for entering bolts into the bolt holesof -the chassis frame. The combined travel, of jack and screw gives a lift of 3 ft. 4 ins, at the jib end.
