IN Glasgow last week, Mr. E. It. U." I Fitzpayne, the Corporation's transport manager, said that an increase in the wages of mitnicipal busmen "will undoubtedly make necessary a further increase in bus fares in Glasgow ". Mr. Fitzpayne added that a fares increase would undoubtedly be followed by a drop in passengers. This had happened every time they raised fares. Since the beginning of last June, when fares were increased by a penny for Saturday travel, there had been a fall of 14,000,000 passengers.

The North Western Road Car Co.

Ltd., which runs services to the Derbyshire Peak District towns and villages, has asked Buxton Council to help in its urgent message of warning.

A spokesman for the company said: "We are concerned about the decline in the number of passengers being carried. If the decline in patronage continues we shall have to abandon our services to the town completely ".
