ABODY which not only tips, but can be traversed to the rear and lowered to the ground, or, if necessary detached from the tractive unit, is claimed to show a considerable saving in both time and money under certain conditions of operation. The idea is based on the use of separate units for the body or loading platform. and the frame on which it is mounted.
When the body is tipped in the normal way, the frame rises with it, but should it be desired to cause the body to move rearwards, the frame members then serve as guide rails for a series of rollers mounted on the longitudinal members of the body.
When it is desired to lower the body to the ground, what are termed the elevating columns at the rear end are first let down, and then through endless-chain mechanism, either handor power-operated, .the body is caused to travel to the rear. When it-reaches the limit of its backward movement, the action of the elevating columns is reversed, and the body is gently lowered to the ground.
With the body at a low elevation, manual loading can be carried out
much quicker and with less fatigue to the loaders. If required, a body of this type can be made detachable, which means that one tractive unit can be employed in conjunction with a number of bodies..
Whilst chain gear is mentioned as being the operating means for removing the body, it is possible that hydraulic gear could be introduced io give greater efficiency and a general simplification of the design.
