HAVING seen a large family car packed tightly with six grown-ups and three children, ostensibly on a week end outing in the Evesham district, you may not have been right in concluding that a view, of the countryside, a dish of tea and a quick one on the way home were the only contemplated ingredients of a pleasant Sunday afternoon. One of the men may have been a haulier (one of those independent types) going out to inspect a new loading site for market-garden produce, and one of the others a grower's agent who knew the fanners and who was, in a position to lend a hand in the negotiations. Undoubtedly a happy time was had by all and, with equal certainty, the . drivers were able to leave their base on the Monday morning knowing exactly Where to go, who to see and where there was a telephone near. the site.

The 'committee, consisting of 13 employers' and employees' organizations, stipulates the type of driving licence to be issued and enumerates the points to be considered in the examination of drivers.. Of interest is the fact that two types of driving licence are issued; the first, known as the bronze diploma, is called the A licence, and the second, or silver diploma, the B licence. In each case a detailed knowledge of road traffic law_ and a general knowledge of transport law, is required and, to a lesser extent,the elements of motor engineering must be understood. Driving skill is examined, and to obtain a B Licence the applicant must have driVen for at least a year without accident.
