Maritime is converting its defleeted drawbar container stock into brick-and-block carriers Steve Banner reports on the new initiative.

Well-known for supplying used trucks from its own fleet with guaranteed work if required, container haulier Maritime Transport is now marketing second-hand drawbar rigs. converted from container traffic to transport bricks and blocks.

We decided to offer them because we recognise that there is a big demand for this type of vehicle, and we're already getting a lot of enquiries," says Maritime used truck specialist Matt Heath. We're not involved in the construction industry, however, so they don't come with guaranteed work."

However, this does not mean Maritime is finding hauliers are not interested in taking on guaranteed container work.Heath reports: "There's a lot of demand for it, and we're now employing over 220 subbies."

Nor have long lead times on new vehicles affected the number of second-hand trucks the company has available for disposal."We ordered our new trucks well in advance, so it won't be a problem," he says. u
