Information about offences can be shared between countries, although doing so is currently optional.
At a recent conference, however, the Freight Transport Association and International Road Transport Union were pushing for more effective communication between EU member states to prosecute drivers in their own country when they have committed a serious offence in other member states. They seek to have a system In place by the end of 2010.
