Rikki Chequer, community manager for TruckNet UK, reports on the past week's hot topics of discussion among members of the UK's leading Internet forum for professional drivers.

Lymm truckslop has come in for some flack on TruckNet UK this week, with drivers and operators complaining that the on-site dampers are a little over-zealous, and the amount of cash required to release the clamps is plainly ridiculous.

Older drivers are remembering the days of running onto the Continent under TIR rules and the "fun" they had when the paperwork was not 100% correct. Also in the Euro Drivers forum, those same old hands are remembering the Dolphin In Dover and some of the characters that used to work there.

As one pointed out, the Dolphin was certainly not a smoke-free environment and all the meals came with free added fag ash.

In the Safety forum our resident freelance DGSA is dishing out his wisdom. It seems that there's a lot of misunderstanding about running under ADR rules, and how to work out if those "limited quantities" place a driver under the scope of the regulations.

A possible entrant to the industry with an eight-year-old DR -10 (drink-driving) endorsement on his licence wonders in the New and Wannabes forum whether it is worth him taking his LGV test, Other drivers advise him that finding a job will be difficult but not impossible -although generally they think he is better to wait until he can clear the endorsement.

Drivers comparing the cost of getting a medical, either for their initial licence or for their examination at the age of 45, are reporting costs from £29 to 0120. This just shows it pays to shop around.

Finally, on a non-driving related topic, or 17 June the partner of one of the drivers using TruckNet UK will take part in the Race for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK. Members of the webs ite are sponsoring her and she has already exceeded her initial target by 75%.

More donations are very welcome; drop by the Family Room forum, click on the Race for Life topic and follow the links in there. Good luck on the day, Brankica.
