is the correct rate of pay for drivers of these vehicles?
A The statutory minimum remuneration laid
down by the Road Haulage Wages Council Regulations applies to drivers of goods vehicles operating on A and B licence only. But although these regulations have no direct influence on the rates of pay for drivers of C licence vehicles, the effect of supply and demand in the labour market results in the level of C licence rates of pay being similar to those of A and B licence drivers. Regarding the distinction between four-, sixand eight-wheelers the Road Haulage Wages Regulations are graduated on the basis of carrying capacity, so that the number of wheels or axles which a vehicle has does not apply.
Although a wage claim is pending the minimum remuneration per week for drivers of vehicles whose home depot is situated outside the London Area is as follows:—Vehicles with carrying capacity of over one ton and up to five tons, 10 18s. 6d.; over five and up to 10 tons £11 7s. 9d.; over 10 and up to 15 tons E11 15s. 6d.; over 15 and up to 18 tons £12 4s. 9d.; and over 18 tons £12 16s. 3d.
