ROADS SERVING Britain's major airports are not keeping pace with the rapid development of air freight and passenger services, reports the British Road Federation. "Traffic delays in collection and delivery," it says, "invalidate the immense advantages that air transport brings in terms of time-saving to industry and passenger travel."

By 1971, airports in London alone could be handling 24m. passengers and 500,000 tons of cargo each year, and by the late 1970s up to 50m. passengers and 2m. tons.

New Crane Fruehauf Depot: A new factory at Whitburn, West Lothian, is to become the Scottish depot for Crane Fruehauf, articulated trailer manufacturers. Initially it will provide 40 jobs but later the labour force will be stepped up to 100.
