,LIGHT OUT OF TOWN coach operators who fail to contribute towards the Blackpool lights appeal fund came under fire from the fund organizer, Mr. Joseph Eastham, on Tuesday.
He said only 19 coach firms out of 1,200 who were circularized gave money. And that totalled only £22.
"The argument that they use apparently Is that they bring enough trade to Blackpool, making subscription unnecessary."
Councillor James Blake, the lights committee chairman, pointed out that but for the attraction the coaches would he in the garages six weeks earlier. Some coaches from Lancashire made six or seven trips an evening, going through without anyone spending any money in the town.
Mr. Harry Carpenter, the lights director, said that the appeal fund could do with £10,000 a year more towards the cost of new features. Coach firms could help a lot.
A new feature of the lights this year is a three-dimensional 600 ft. "extravaganza of jungle life".
