THE FIRST Rockwell-designed metric single-reduction drive axles to be built at the Cameri, Italian plant owned jointly by Iveco and Rockwell are due to be ready for despatch within the next two weeks.
On February 1 Rockwell will increase its shareholding in the CVC-OMEVI (Commercial Vehicle Components — Officine Meccaniche Veicole lndustriali) company which owns the plant, from 40 to 60 per cent while lyeco's shareholding will then fall from 60 to 40 per cent.
Iveco will continue to take the factory's "core volume" but this rearrangement of the company's shareholding will give Rockwell more freedom in supplying other European vehicle manufacturers with CVC axles.
The Iveco/Rockwell agreement concerning the Cameri plant, which is 45km from Milan, has 1,000 employees and currently produces Iveco axles, was signed in June 1981.
The project has stayed on schedule over the past two years for January 1984 was always the planned date for production of Rockwell axles to commence.
